The control panel gives you access to a menu of options. Some of the options enable the user to edit the parameters of the drive configuration. One options enables the user to access the drive diagnostic tools. You can also select options to enable serial communications. Make the selections through the keypad. The keypad also enables the operator to control the drive locally. The operator can use the keypad to start and stop the motor and also speed up or slow down the motor.

Use a serial port that is 6 feet in length or less. Also, obtain a serial cable that has the connectors on each end that are needed to make the connection. Make sure the laptop is configured to enable communications through the serial port.

To configure the serial port, use the configuration tool embedded on the drive. If troubleshooting the connection is required, make sure the cable is firmly connected on both the board and on the laptop.
